Veron Gray – Board Member, Better Stewards
With over 31 years of banking experience, I currently serve as the Branch Manager and Director of Community Relations at The Equitable Bank, overseeing the Metro Milwaukee area. My passion for empowering individuals and families has driven me to spend the past 23 years promoting financial literacy in the community, particularly assisting first-time homebuyers through the complexities of purchasing a home. As a Board member of Better Stewards, I bring deep industry knowledge to lead initiatives that foster financial well-being and support community economic growth.
Dr. Angela Ellis-Gordon - Board Member, Better Stewards
Dr. Angela Ellis-Gordon is a professor in the English Department at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 19 years, where she teaches Written Communication and Workplace Communication. Additionally, she teaches Deaf adults reading, mathematics, and English, and has been fluent in American Sign Language for over 28 years.
She is also the founder of St. Paul Outreach Ministry and Clean for Teens, a Christian-based nonprofit that provides hygiene essentials to teenagers and others in need. As a board member at Better Stewards, she brings dedication to helping the community succeed in their financial endeavors for themselves and their families.
Previously, she worked for 9 years as a Customer Service Bank Manager at Firstar Bank in Milwaukee, where she supervised operations, trained staff, and supported customer services.

Irenda Jones - Board Member, Better Stewards
Irenda joined the Better Stewards board in March 2026, bringing over two decades of banking experience and 15 years of executive leadership. She is deeply passionate about financial literacy, women’s health, and empowering her community through education and service. As the 2024/2025 Chair of the American Heart Association, she actively promotes heart health, wellness, and broader nonprofit initiatives. Recognized as a top leader in 2023, Irenda is known for treating every employee with respect while maintaining an adaptable leadership style that inspires high-performing teams. Outside of her professional work, she is a dedicated volunteer who teaches financial literacy and enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with her husband, four sons, extended family, and their Labrador.
